What to Expect from a Neuropsychological Assessment by Dr. Mary Acunzo:
Standardized testing that involves working one on one, approximately four to six, in many different areas: cognitive, achievement, language, visual-spatial, executive functions/attention, and emotional. Background information will be gathered from the parent (school records will be requested). Behavoral reports will be obtained from parent and teachers. Feedback/Report should be expected within approximately two weeks from last testing date or when all information is obtained.
Commonly asked questions:
-What should I tell my child about the testing? Provide a general description of what the testing is and why she/he is coming, such as, “You are going to have some testing, which is answering questions, drawing, and doing puzzles, to see how you learn best. Sometimes it helps a teacher to teach you better or Mom and Dad to work with you better at home.” If you child is having problems at the time of testing, talk about how the testing may help figure out solutions for them.
-What else do I need to do before the testing session? Please fill out the required forms from the Scheduling an Appointment webpage: Intake Form, Consent Form and Patient Information, Intake Form, Childhood History Form, Release/Request Form, and MA Notice Form (HIPAA). Other forms, such as behavior checklist will be mailed to you for home and school (please give the teacher the form so you can bring it completed to the session).
-What do I bring to the session? Please bring a recent photo of your child, completed paperwork, and COPIES of ALL report cards, standardized testing, previous school or outside testing, IEPs, and any other relevant medical or other reports.
